David has achieved the following qualifications related to hypnotherapy:

  • Diploma in Clinical and Advanced Hypnosis from The UK Academy of Therapeutic Arts and Sciences
  •  Diploma in Ericksonian Hypnotherapy from The UK Academy of Therapeutic Arts and Sciences
  • Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma of The National Council for Hypnotherapy and NCFE
  • Certified Hypnotherapist from the National Guild of Hypnotists
  • Board Certified Hypnotherapist of the National Guild of Hypnotists
  • Licensed Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming from the Society of Neuro-Linguistic Programming
  • Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming from The UK Academy of Therapeutic Arts and Sciences
  • Certified Practitioner of HypnoBirthing® from the Institute of HypnoBirthing.
  • Certified Instructor of the National Guild of Hypnotists.

Following military service and teacher training, David became an educator for 20 years, ending this employed phase of his life as the Vice Principal of an In-Service Teacher Training College. During the last 12 years of his work in education, from actively promoting courses in personal growth and development, he developed a strong interest in client-centred therapy. He became a trained counsellor, with a special interest in cognitive behavioural approaches, and for a number of years had responsibility for training counsellors. He first 'learned' hypnosis and its application in therapeutic work whilst training in the Heimler Social Functioning Approach in the late '70's and this was reinforced in his exposure to NLP later on. It was not until 25 years later, however, that he took the training leading to his setting up in full time practice as a Clinical Hypnotherapist. In the intervening years David ran a company specializing in the training of trainers and managers from all sectors of commerce, education and industry, in which he was actively involved in helping managers to achieve the qualifications of the then Institute of Managers. He now runs a busy hypnotherapy practice in the border areas of Wrexham, Shrewsbury and Chester as well as bringing his experience as teacher, trainer and clinician to bear on the training and development of hypnotherapists.

David is a professional member in good standing of

  • The National Council for Hypnotherapy
  • The National Guild of Hypnotists

He is also an Affiliate of The Institute of HypnoBirthing and is the National Council for Hypnotherapy's Specialist Adviser for the Treatment of Tinnitus.

THE DIPLOMA IN CLINICAL AND ADVANCED HYPNOSIS (Dip.CAH)

THE COURSE
Our Diploma Course consists of either 11 weekend modules within one year, or 3 Monday to Friday courses at 2 monthly intervals, or an intensive 14 day residential experience. All of these options are complemented by guided and supported home study and practical tuition in a small study group, incorporating approximately 450 hours altogether.

Clinical Hypnotherapy is both a theoretical and practical based study. We believe that it is very important for a student to not only know the information taught, but also to be able to use this information in a practical way. To this end, a large proportion of the course is dedicated to skill practice sessions.

In addition to the 'classroom' attendance, students will be required to submit a portfolio showing evidence of having met the learning outcomes of the national standards. This portfolio will include a learning journal, case studies representing different presenting issues and techniques, a CD or audiotape of a first session with a client, a statement of personal and professional philosophy and answers to questions set throughout the course.

Our Diploma is recognised by several national and international professional associations and the course meets the requirements for the externally accredited Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma awarded jointly by the National Council for Hypnotherapy and the NCFE Awarding Body. This is a vocational award, based on National Occupational Standards, which you will also receive upon successful completion of this course.

As the DipCAH covers the core curriculum of the National Guild of Hypnotists, it leads to Certified Hypnotherapist status with that internationally recognised professional body.

Upon successful completion of the course you are eligible to use the letters DipCAH,  HPD, and PNLP  after your name.

As the relevant content is covered during the course, students who are willing to take extra optional examinations also have the opportunity to achieve specialist certifications as NLP Practitioner, in Working with Anxiety, as a Practitioner of Ericksonian Hypnotherapy and in Smoking Cessation.

ELIGIBILITY

Our admissions process has led to our reputation as a leading academic institution in the field of Clinical Hypnosis. Hypnotherapy is a profession that incorporates a significant responsibility to those seeking our services. As such, we do not simply accept all who apply to take part in the course. We feel that it is of the utmost importance that anyone who undertakes this course must:
1. be of suitable character to take on a career of working with vulnerable people

2. be sufficiently mature to be able to listen to traumatic material without being unduly affected personally

3. have sufficient background and experience to be able to meet the academic demands of the course.

All applicants will be interviewed to determine their suitability for this programme and enthusiasm, commitment and professional outlook are important factors that are investigated during the interview process..

COURSE FEE

The course fee, including all certification fees, is £1750.00 for options 1 and 2 . For the intensive 14 day residential option the fee will be £2,850.00, which includes all meals, accommodation, tuition and certifications. A non residential fee will be arranged for this course on request.

A deposit OF NO LESS THAN 10% will be required upon enrolment, with the balance payable on the first day of the course for options 1 and 2 and by the closing date of 8 June 2007 for Option 3, the residential course option. However, for the weekend and Monday to Friday options, it may be possible to pay the balance by monthly instalments at 0% interest. (Over 10 months for option 1 and 5 months for option 2). If you require a special arrangement, please contact for a confidential discussion. The UK Academy is approved for Career Development Loans. Students should be aware that additional expenditure will need to be incurred for books and any supervision extra to the training sessions and home study.

COURSE MATERIALS

As the course proceeds students will build up a practically useful manual of handouts and other materials. Each student receives a comprehensive handbook, which can be viewed and downloaded by  clicking here.

   (Acrobat PDF viewer required).

ASSESSMENT

Assessment is two fold. Firstly, you will be observed throughout the course in terms of your involvement and in the practical exercises and skill practice sessions. Secondly, you will be required to put together a portfolio of work to demonstrate your achievement of the learning outcomes of the national standards. There is no examination as such, as the emphasis is on skill development and practice, but a statement of personal and professional philosophy, details of case studies and answers to set questions will be incorporated into your portfolio.

CONTINING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND CLINICAL SUPERVISION

Although the Diploma is a full practitioner qualification, we believe that both CPD and clinical supervision is vital for the hypnotherapy practitoner and for the profession as a whole. With this aim we are proud to be able to offer ongoing CPD training opportunities and also both group and individual clinical supervision.
